Dear Reader,

Our 2012 has been full and rich. We opened our website, launched our Facebook platform, found old friends and met new friends. It was an exciting year!

One of our clients came up with this recipe for treats she makes for her equine half (who, by the way, is ever so grateful to have such a partner!). Tested on a few members of our equine community (who loved them, and shoved each other aside for a sample), we thought you and your equine might like to usher in the New Year with a super easy cookie recipe:

Slider’s Treats (by Micaela van Zwoll)

1 cup alfalfa all in one mixture
1-2 cups oatmeal
1/2 cup molasses
1/2 cup Karo syrup (light or dark, doesn’t matter)
1 cup peppermint candies (you may substitute chopped apples or carrots)
1/4 cup salt

Preheat oven to 350. Prepare mini cupcake pan with mini cupcake liners (papers).
Using a soft spatula, blend all ingredients very well in a large bowl.
Spoon mixture into mini cupcake liners.
Bake 15-20 minutes or until you smell an odor similar to toasted grass.
Cool on cake rack.
Serve cooled Slider’s Treats to your equine upon good behaviour, or when administering medication (in lieu of pill pockets).
